FAQ
What is Fertilova®?
Fertilova® is a nutritional supplement of plant-derived dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), micronized to the same particle sizes used by the Center for Human Reproduction (CHR) in their studies of DHEA's effects on women's fertility.
What is DHEA?
DHEA is a natural hormone made in the body by all women and men. DHEA is an intermediate step in a complex process called steroidogenesis, in which cholesterol is converted into male and female sex hormones: testosterone and estradiol. DHEA levels decline significantly as women (and men) get older.
What is the potential benefit of DHEA?
DHEA has been shown to enhance fertility in women of advanced ovarian age.*
What differentiates Fertilova® from other DHEA supplements?
DHEA is widely advertised for its many supposed benefits. However, most of their health benefits are scientifically not well documented. Fertilova® is designed specifically to enhance female fertility in women with advanced ovarian age.
In short, Fertilova® is the only DHEA product that meets all of these criteria:
- Micronized DHEA supplement, specifically developed for women who want to enhance their fertility*
- Individually blister-packed (25 mg Three Times Daily)
- 100% plant-derived
- Undergone rigorous 3-step quality assurance process, including batch testing at independent laboratories for potency and particle sizes
Who should not take Fertilova®?
Please refer to the supplement facts insert for safety information and warning about Fertilova® use. If you have any doubts about whether you should start Fertilova® supplementation, you should consult your healthcare provider before starting DHEA.
What are the potential side effects of Fertilova®?
Reported side effects of DHEA supplementation include: oily skin, acne, hair loss, increased hirsutism (hair growth), deepening of the voice, increased libido and assertiveness, gastrointestinal complaints and hypertension.
How long should I take Fertilova® DHEA?
At least 6 weeks, up to 16-20 weeks of DHEA supplementation is recommended for improving egg quality, because that's how long it takes for an egg to reach maturity in the ovaries and become ready for ovulation. A more detailed explanation is available on the how to increase egg quality page.
What should I do if I miss a dose of Fertilova® DHEA?
Missing a dose or two here and there will not be a problem. You can continue taking Fertilova® as if you did not miss a dose. We do not recommend taking a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
Can I take Prenatal Vitamins with Fertilova® DHEA?
Yes! OBGYN doctors recommend that women who are trying to get pregnant take prenatal vitamins to prepare their bodies for a healthy pregnancy. FNC's Prenatal Vitamins ensure that your body is ready for the baby when you get pregnant with the help of Fertilova® DHEA.
Does Fertilova® DHEA need to be taken before or after a meal?
It does not matter whether you take Fertilova® before or after a meal.
When in my menstrual cycle should I take Fertilova® DHEA?
Supplementation with DHEA can be started at any time in your menstrual cycle. Based on the studies conducted by the CHR and other leading fertility researchers, supplementation with Fertilova® DHEA for female fertility is recommended uninterrupted, for at least 6 weeks up to 18 weeks. CHR emphasizes that DHEA should be continued for at least 6 weeks and until positive pregnancy test.
To understand the rationale behind this recommendation, please refer to our improve egg quality page, which explains the maturation process of eggs and how androgens may enhance healthy growth of eggs in the ovary.
What should I do if I have a question about using DHEA?
Please refer to the insert first. If your question is not answered, you should consult your healthcare provider before starting supplementation with DHEA.
